The Coronado Public Library and the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission announces the second annual Coronado Community Read, a program that aims to bring the entire community together with the shared read of one book. The book selected for the first Coronado Community Read was “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. This non-fiction work which took more than a decade to research and write, instantly hit the New York Times bestseller list when it was published in February 2010 and remained there for more than four years.
The Coronado Community Read program strives to bring the community closer together with the reading of one book and a variety of discussions and programs centered around the themes of the novel.
In January and February of 2017, the Coronado Public Library and Coronado Cultural Arts Commission hosted a number of book discussions and programs throughout the community based on Skloot's book. At the conclusion of those events the Community Read Committee solicited recommendations from the public for the 2018 Coronado Community Read.
Forty-two titles were nominated for the 2018 program and a subcommittee of reading volunteers narrowed the list of nominees down to six titles. Now it is time for the community to choose the 2018 Coronado Community Read book. Cast your vote for one of these six books by August 31. The willing title will be announced in September, and the next Read will take place in February 2018
