Coronado Writers Workshop Update

Two new speakers have been added to this Saturday’s Writers Workshop, due to last-minute cancelations. Each has taken on subject matter that is not easy to write and often difficult to read. Both represent that small percentage of authors who are compelled to tell a story, no matter how hard it is to write.

Community Center Art Gallery Exhibition Announced

The Coronado Cultural Arts Commission is pleased to announce the installation of the Community Center Art Gallery, a special space used exclusively to exhibit art work by local artists. The gallery will be comprised of four areas to exhibit work of various media, including paintings and photography, pottery, sculpture, and glass, etc. Overall, the gallery will be approximately 60 linear feet of display area.

Lions Club Dinner Theater Sept. 18th

oronado Lions Club hosting a fundraising dinner theater with all proceeds going to help San Diego and Coronado efforts for the blind, visually impaired and for Coronado youth programs. This year's musical is Thoroughly Modern Milly. Tickets are $50 each ($20 for show and $30 for dinner no host bar). There will be a small silent auction during the dinner then everyone can enjoy Coronado's own community theater group performing Thoroughly Modern Millie.

2015 Brown Bag Piano Concert Series

The Coronado Cultural Arts Commission presents an exhibition and sale of works by one of Coronado’s most beloved and prolific artists, Sue Tushingham McNary. Join Sue McNary and the Cultural Arts Commissioners for “Coronado Celebrates Sue Tushingham McNary” Opening Reception is set for Friday, September 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. The sale will continue Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coronado Library Winn Room.

Wisely Revise

Knowing how to revise is what separates professional writers from amateurs. This session will cover the different levels of revision, micro (a scene or chapter) vs. the whole enchilada of a book length manuscript. You'll receive a detailed handout of questions to ask as you (or readers) critique. We'll discuss choosing readers and working selectively with feedback. We'll also consider a crucial part of revision, thinking away from the page.

New exhibit opens September 18th!

Stockdale: Character, Community, Leadership is a special exhibit detailing the extraordinary life and family story of Coronadan Vice Admiral James Stockdale, one of the most decorated and respected Navy officers of his era. Vice Admiral Stockdale was awarded the Medal of Honor for his “valiant leadership and extraordinary courage” during seven years as a POW at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” during Vietnam.

Countdown Underway To Debut of Coronado Island Film Festival

As you are reading this article, the first-ever Coronado Island Film Festival (CIFF) is just a scant 128 days away.  Scheduled to debut Martin Luther Holiday Weekend, January 15-18, 2016.  The festival will feature approximately 60 films shown acorss five viewing locations in Coronado.
