Consider Serving on the Cultural Arts Commission

Dear Coronado Citizens,
I am writing to encourage YOU to consider serving on the City of Coronado Cultural Arts Commission.
Arts enrich our world and have a measurable impact on our health and wellbeing as well as our economy and society. It is important to recognize this impact and value arts and culture as a tremendous local resource. The Coronado City Council recognized this resource and in 2011 established the Cultural Arts Commission. The commission's mission is to serve and partner with Coronado's many local artists and cultural arts organizations, and to act as a catalyst in further developing a vibrant and cohesive arts community, strengthening arts education and enhancing cultural tourism and economic development.
The Commission consists of seven volunteer commissioners appointed by the City Council. It meets on the first Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The meetings are open and the public is invited to attend. Agendas and Minutes of current and previous meetings are posted and available on the City’s website: www.coronado.ca.us.
The Cultural Arts Commission encourages community involvement in its work so that the goals and activities are truly reflective of the community at large. Specific program areas are chaired by a member of the commission. Commissioners are responsible for projects in their program area. Currently there are two open seats on the commission in the areas of Literary Arts and Visual Arts.
Serving on a commission is a significant and meaningful way to participate in your community and as a member of the Cultural Arts Commission you will actively contribute to the arts in Coronado. In 2017 the Cultural Arts Commission will begin work on a city-wide cultural plan. It is a great time to join the commission as we embark on this planning process.
If you are interested in serving, I believe it is critical to fully understand the function, purpose, and mission of the Cultural Arts Commission prior to seeking an appointment. I encourage you to learn all you can about the Cultural Arts Commission and the commitment it requires. Visit CoronadoARTS.com. Attend a meeting or event to form a first impression of how the Commission operates. I am delighted to meet with any citizen interested in serving so you may best learn what commitment is expected as part of an appointment. In addition, the Commission is supported by Contract Arts Administrator Kelly Purvis and she can be contacted by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
As a founding member of the Cultural Arts Commission, I am proud of the progress made in promoting the arts in Coronado since our inception in 2011. Arts and culture is thriving in Coronado and although the work has been challenging it is extremely rewarding. I look forward to leading the Cultural Arts Commission this year as we embark on planning for Coronado’s art future. Won’t you join us?
