Summer Festival 2018- Monday Movie Matinee

This WWII movie is about the U.S. Marines' invasion and hard-won battle to take-over the Japenese-controlled island of Iwo Jima in the Pacific. Starring John Wayne as Sgt. John Stryker. While this is a dramatization of the World War II battle of  Iwo Jima, actual combat footage taken during fighting on Tarawa and Iwo Jima were used in this film. Directed by Allan Dwan, who began making movies in San Diego in the early 1910's, including some in Coronado. (1949)

Sponsored by: Hotel Del Coronado and Friends of the Library
