Hitchcock meets Hilarious in this award-winning stage adaptation of The Master of Suspense‘s murderous classic thriller. Director Desha Crownover (Seussical) makes a welcome return to Coronado Playhouse to bring you this multi-award winning, ingenious and entertaining theatrical extravaganza.
4 actors, 139 characters and 100 hilarious minutes await you when you journey back to 1930’s Britain and meet our hero, the painfully English (and painfully handsome) Richard Hannay.
Watching a Music Hall performance by ‘Mr. Memory’ – an act that shows a man’s incredible photographic memory – Mr. Hannay hears off-stage shots being fired. In the terror and confusion that ensues, he finds himself in the clutches of a beautiful woman, Anabella Schmidt, who later reveals herself as a spy. Anabella lets Hannay in on a plot she has uncovered called ’39 Steps.’ The very next day he finds her dead and so disguised as a milkman (obviously), Hannay escapes London and flees to Scotland. Then the real adventure begins.
The 39 Steps ran in London’s West End for 9 years, the 5th longest-running play in the history of London theatre. It ran for 771 performances on Broadway, winning both Tony and Drama Desk Critics awards. It has been translated into over 20 languages with performances running all over the world.
