Explore the world-renowned Musée du Louvre in Paris and Museo del Prado in Madrid at the library. Artist and Lecturer, Amanda Schaffer will discuss and compare the history, architecture, and highlights of these iconic museums. -Which museum originated as a medieval fortress?;Which museum houses a well-known sculpture from antiquity that was found in the ocean?; What famous painting was vandalized with acid?; What artist included an image of himself in his painted masterpiece?; Find out how these museums’ treasures survived WWII and what additions to the museums have been made in recent years. Amanda Schaffer is a lecturer with the Osher Institute at San Diego State University. She teaches are classes and presents lectures on art history related topics, including art and architecture along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail in northern Spain. She teaches through Oasis San Diego presenting on art and history related topics. A graduate of Pepperdine University, Amanda earned her Bachelor’s in Illustration, an M.F.A. in Visual Arts through Vermont college of Fine Arts as well as M.A. in Art & Religion through Graduate Theological Union.
