Leslie Crawford moved to Coronado in 1965 when her father got orders to Naval Air Station North Island. The wife of a naval officer, Leslie, and her husband raised their two boys on Coronado. A San Diego Master Gardener, Leslie blogs and writes gardening articles for the San Diego Union-Tribune, as well as chairing the Coronado Flower Show for seven years. She also contributes to Coronado Historical Association's publication, History Matters. Currently, she is the editor of Coronado's newest publication, Crown City Magazine.
Leslie's book Coronado was published in 2011. Part of Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series, the book presents the story of Coronado in a pictorial compilation of historic postcards. At age 10, Leslie rode one of the last car ferries to cross the bay before the opening of the San Diego - Coronado Bay Bridge. Even at that young age, it was obvious to her that the end of the ferries meant the end of a very special way of life on Coronado. Seeing the changes that occurred on Coronado over the years sparked an early interest in learning more about the history of this incredible little city that has continued to this day.
