About

The CBB was formed in 1997 as a local big band originally intended to give Coronado high school students a jazz band to play in that was unavailable at the school level. Over the years those students moved on and established local musicians started filling in the gaps. The chart list was growing, musicians rotated in and out of open chairs and several years later, the band was enjoying a solid group of great players.

The following years saw some personnel and director changes and is now flourishing as San Diego's best swing big band. Although the band rarely played outside of Coronado for many years the band has been regularly playing their music all around San Diego county. We've had performances at Dizzy's jazz club downtown San Diego, Balboa Park for their twilight concert series, Bernardo Winery for their summer Big Band Nights, Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado Yacht Club, USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, Grossmont Center and of course we still play at our usual local hangout: the Coronado Ferry Landing. We also play for corporate and private events such as weddings, dances, banquets and fundraising events.

We rehearse every Tuesday night at Coronado High School and our book contains charts written and/or performed and/or recorded by Gordon Goodwin, Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Steve Lawrence, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Nestico, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Neal Hefti, Bill Hollman, Charlie Parker, Buddy Rich, Lennie Neihaus, Tom Kubis, Les Hooper, Frank Foster, Ray Brown, Tommy Newsom and many more.
