About the Artist

Los Angeles native, Robert Gerdes, began his formal professional studies in art as a scholarship student at the Chouinard Art Institute in downtown Los Angeles. Later, he furthered his studies at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC.

Since 1978 Robert has resided in San Diego, California. During the 1980s and 1990s, he had annual one-person shows at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village in Balboa Park. He was also a member of the Southwestern Artists' Association also in Spanish Village.

The artist has been a member of the Coronado Art Association since 1987, and the San Diego County Art Mart Association, based in Balboa Park since 2007.

Currently, with these two organizations, he shows regularly on the first and third Sunday of the month at Art in the Park in Spreckels Park Coronado, and in Balboa Park near the international cottages on the second and fourth weekends of each month.

The artist is known for his paintings of the San Diego region including the Anza-Borrego desert park. He also performs house portraits and other work on commission.
