Now entering its 5th year, the Coronado Community Read is designed to unite the community through the shared reading of a single book. The program encourages discussion and participation in community-building events around the theme of the title, selected by you, the readers. Please go to the library website or click here for the form to make your nomination for the 2021 Coronado Community Read by Friday, September 25th, 2020.

ALL WEEK: Photo Contest at the Library

Join the library’s Instagram photo contest for teens and adults! Submit a photo that embodies the theme "the joy of reading!" To play, use the hashtag #joyofreadingcpl and tag the library’s Instagram account, @nadolibraryteens for teens and @coronadopubliclibrary for adults. A winner from each age group will receive a prize and their photo will be reposted on the library's account!

ALL WEEK: Take a Public Art Tour!

Did you know that Coronado has its very own Public Art Walking Tour app? Is it on your phone yet? The app highlights more than 70 pieces of public art, shares their details, and navigates walkers or bikers to public art throughout the city. You don’t need to be an art expert to experience the enrichment that art can bring to our daily lives - download a copy of the Public Art Map, download the app to your phone, and get walking!

Coronado is filled with talented young artists. Through initiatives such as Meet the Masters and Monart, students have the opportunity to create works of art through various mediums. Watch this video slideshow from the Coronado Public Library to see for yourself!

9 am: Babies Tots & Kids Music Jam with Ms. Lisa

Location: facebook                             

For ages 1-4. Gather your lil’ jammaros for a joyful, jumping, country harvest jamboree! This class is designed to be interactive between children and their caregiver, so be prepared to sing, dance, bounce, laugh, and play. Before class, make some shakers using macaroni pasta and an empty dry plastic jar or bottle. Set aside 2 wooden spoons to click as rhythm sticks. Save a cardboard box at least 10 inches wide to use as a drum to play and to take a Rhythm Ride. Finally, have a small thin scarf ready for peek a boo. Participants should reach out to Lisa via text at 619-861-7313 to let her know they have requested to be added to the facebook group.  

11 am: Baby Storytime with Ms. Jennifer

For babies from birth to 2 years old. A 20-minute storytime for babies and their caregivers to develop early language skills through songs, rhymes, repetition, and play.

4 pm: Musical Storytime with Ms. Mariah 

Location: facebook 

Welcome to the wonderful world of music! While professional music teacher Ms. Mariah plays the piano, kids will foster interest and enthusiasm for music while listening and singing. Geared to Ages 2-5. Monday at 4 p.m., Facebook.   Expose your child to music AND literature as Ms. Mariah tells the story of The Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield at the Coronado Library piano.

8 pm: Virtual Music Recital

11 am: Toddler Story Time

4 pm: Tinker Tuesday

Every Tuesday, children can put on their scientist hats with materials and ingredients they have at home.This hands-on educational program allows children to explore, create, design, and problem solve while focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) concepts. 6-8 pm: Wine and Paint at Emerald C Gallery

For adults only. Create your own canvas masterpiece at Emerald C Gallery while enjoying wine, beer or soft drinks. The class will be led by a master artist guiding you step-by-step through the artistic process. Ages 21+ - register at www.emeraldc.com or call 619) 996-3315. 

8-10 pm: Live Music with Matt Heinecke

Coronado’s own Matt Heinecke will be performing a special Arts Education Concert for our community! Whether it’s live at Stake Chophouse or streamed from his living room, be sure to tune in. 


1 pm: CHA's Bite of History on Coronado School of the Fine Arts

Join the Coronado Historical Association on Facebook Live for a lunchtime talk. Support local business and order a take-out lunch from a local restaurant, or make your own lunch and hear Vickie Stone and Christine Stokes, CHA's Curator of Collections and Director, speak and share photos of the Coronado School of Fine Arts.

4 pm: Crafternoon with Jacyclyn

Wine Cork Air Plant Magnets. Feeling crafty? These fun magnets will jazz up your refrigerator- or wherever you stick them! Pick up a kit starting Monday, September 14th and then follow along with us on Facebook on Thursday at 4 as we put together our wine cork air plant magnets! This marks the launch of our new bi-monthly Crafternoon program for adults. This program will run the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month with kits for that week’s craft available the Monday of that week.


11 am: Preschool Storytime with Ms. Katia

Join your children’s librarian for stories, songs, and surprises, including a literacy tip of the day from Tipster the Turtle. This interactive story time is live, so families are invited to submit comments and song requests to Ms. Katia during the program. Fridays at 11 a.m., Facebook.

1 pm: Autumn Piano Concert Series Kick-Off

September 18th marks the inaugural concert of this year’s series. In its 8th year, this concert series has been a hallmark of the fall since it’s conception. It will look a little different this year, but music lovers will still find something to love! Airing each Friday, amateur and professional musicians will be featured on the library’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Tune in for a wonderful performance!

4 pm: Acting with Andrea

Explore character development by integrating animal movement and characteristics in a 45-minute workshop led by an experienced theater instructor. Space is limited; email agonzales@coronado.ca.us to register and receive Zoom link. This is the first installment of a new monthly drama series geared to ages 9-13. 6:30 pm: All Schools Movie Back 2 School Bash with CSF 

Location: *Silver Strand Elementary and Coronado High School

Come support the Coronado Schools Foundation! This event, benefiting Coronado Unified through Coronado Schools Foundation, will be held at both Silver Strand Elementary and Coronado High School and is for kids of ALL ages! Gates open at 6:30 pm, and the feature film, "E.T., The Extraterrestrial", begins at 7:30pm. Due to social-distancing regulations, tickets will NOT be available for purchase at the event, so order early to ensure your spot!


1-4 pm: Ron Wheeler Live (and streamed) at Seaport Village

Coroonado's beloved Ron Wheeler is back! Head over to Seaport Village to enjoy some LIVE music, or watch on facebook from the comfort of your home. 

3-5 pm: Music and Art Workshop for Kids

Location: *Emerald C Gallery 1331 Orange Ave, Coronado, CA 92118 

Bring out the artist and the musician in your child! Students will create a musically inspired craft and make music together. Using the grand piano centered in Emerald C Gallery, Ms. Mariah will lead the class in a fun afternoon of listening, playing, and creating! Ages 4-12. For adults. Head down to Emerald C Gallery for live music from 6-8. The gallery’s stunning grand piano is surrounded by works art from local and international artists.
