Lone Survivor VIP Screening

Coronado Island Film Festival presents a special Veterans weekend event that includes the screening of "Lone Survivor," the 2013 film that recounts an ill-fated reconnaissance mission in Afghanistan.  Honored guests will be Peter Berg, director, writer, and producer of the award-winning film, and former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, whose best-selling memoir inspired the film.

Coronado School of the Arts Student Lydia Mellor A Cappella Camp Performance

This past summer, rising junior Lydia Mellor attended three performance camps at Brigham Young University. One of them was an A Capella camp, and they just released a video of their performance (click link below). Lydia has the lead vocals in this performance. BYU has the reputation of producing amazing A Capella groups, as you'll see in the video, and Lydia had the opportunity to be coached by several professionals.

September 11 - 17, 2016 is National Arts Education Week

September 11 to 17 is National Arts Education Week as designated by the US Congress.  This provides the opportunity to reflect on how important arts education is to the development of children and to celebrate the excellent opportunities that exist in Coronado.  Scientific research, especially in the field of brain mapping, has proven that the type of activities and studies undertaken in dance, theatre, music, visual arts, creative writing, film and media are extremely helpful, if not essential to a well-educated mind.  Documented research indicates that schools with arts integrated curriculum and specialized arts curriculum often produce the highest overall student academic performance.

Third Annual Coronado Writers Workshop Registration is open!

The Coronado Cultural Arts Commission invites you to participate in the 3rd Annual Coronado Writers Workshop and inspire your writing. The Commission continues to support the literary arts in our comunity with its third annual Writers Workshop on Saturday, October 15. The workshop will feature a day of nine sessions, eight presenters, and a keynote address by award winning author Robert Masello. A wine and author reception follows the close of the day-long event at Coronado's local gem, Bay Books located at 1029 Orange Avenue.
