Next Saturday & Sunday at the Coronado Ferry Landing!! Don’t miss it! The Coronado Art Walk only happens once a year, and the 2014 event takes place next weekend, Sept. 13 & 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Coronado Ferry Landing. Over 100 artists will participate in the juried show. This colorful event also includes art activities to delight all ages, and live entertainment both days. Admission is FREE. Over 10,000 people enjoyed last year’s Art Walk.

This Coronado Art Walk attracts artists from many different parts of the country who work in a wide variety of media. A number of these Artists have participated every year since the very first Coronado Art Walk nine years ago. Event organizer Courtenay McGowen is very excited about this year’s offerings. “Our show has evolved; the quality of workmanship and artistry has really improved over the years. “And we’re now drawing people from a much further distance—both artists and attendees. We now have artists from as far away as New Mexico, Arizona and even Connecticut! Our Art Walk has developed a great reputation, so these people spread the word and that brings the best artists.”

When asked what makes the Coronado Art Walk so popular, she adds, “We’re in a superb location with a fun, beautiful, interesting show that’s free!” Live music adds to the ambience. This year the Bayou Brothers and Velvet Café will perform on Saturday; on Sunday, Rebecca Jade and the Bill Magee Blues Band round out the entertainment. Courtenay encouraged Coronadans to get involved in this great local event that draws so many visitors to the island. “We couldn’t do it without community support. We’re still seeking sponsors and volunteers for this year’s event!” Contact Mary Farley, (619) 435-7242 x 105, events@coronadohistory.org for more information about ways you can help. This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of Kate Purdy, a Coronado jewelry designer who had been in the show every year since 2006, and who passed away just a few days after last year’s show closed. The Coronado Art Walk is presented each year by the Coronado Historical Association, with support from the Unified Port of San Diego and donations from many others.
