Join ArmChair Travel as we head out to the Channel Islands

On Tuesday, October 15 at 6:00 P.M., the City of Coronado John D. Spreckels Center Armchair Travel program takes us over 5,400 miles away to the Channel Islands. Just off the Atlantic coast of Normandy lie the only English-speaking parts of the world to have been occupied by the Nazis. In 1940, the Channel Islands, loyal to the British Crown but not part of the United Kingdom, became part of Hitler's Atlantic Wall. World War II is only one fascinating chapter of the Channel Islands. Neolithic, French-Norman, and English Civil War history were also important periods. Beyond that, the Channel Islands, also known for their signature milk cows, have been visited for centuries as popular tourist destinations with their stunningly beautiful and daunting headlands, sweeping beaches, secluded coves, amazing tides, castles and quaint towns.

The evening’s speaker, David Brezic, has visited 154 of the 193 United Nations countries and all seven continents. His travel passions stem from annual family sojourns followed by 45 years of international career opportunities.

October’s Armchair Travel event will be held in the John D. Spreckels Center, located at 1019 Seventh St. Beer and wine is available for purchase starting at 5:30 P.M. Light refreshments will be served at 6 P.M. followed by the speaker’s presentation at 6:30 P.M. The cost is $6 for residents, $7 for non-residents.
