Born in Budapest, Hungary, Judy “J.E.” Laufer grew up in Montreal, Canada. Trilingual, she became an interpreter for the 1976 Montreal Olympic games, and then a kindergarten teacher and early childhood education specialist. She now divides her time between Phoenix, Arizona and Coronado.
Judy began writing after the death of her father, writing a story to help young children deal with grief. Where Did Papa Go, published in 2012, won a Golden Poet Award for its poetic treatment of the topic in a book appropriate for early elementary students. Her other children’s books include Simply Sharing Shabbat and two other titles in her Gigglyville series: Last Night I Had a Laughmare (2012), and What’s YOUR Birthday Wish (2017).
In 2017, Judy published her first book for young adult and adult audiences. Choices: The True Story of One Family’s Daring Escape to Freedom, is an account of her family’s escape from Hungary following the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Like her children’s books, Choices is published by her own publishing company, Little Egg Publishing. Learn more about Judy at https://littleeggpublishing.com/.
