Sheltering Wings 1999 Sculpture

Grand Caribe Shoreline Park, Coronado Cays (Located off Coronado Cays Blvd., left onto Grand Caribe Causeway. Park is at end of street.) Bronze sculpture on pedestal base

The Port of San Diego and the City of Coronado opened the 3.7 acre natural habitat Grand Caribe Shoreline Park and unveiled "Sheltering Wings", a full-size sculpture of two Blue Herons by Christopher Slatoff, on July 14, 1998.

The idea of a Blue Heron sculpture originated with Coronado community group members.

Slatoff created two Blue Herons as a tribute to the rare birds which can be seen feeding and resting on Grand Caribe Isle.

The sculpture symbolizes the idea of protecting the fragile natural environment.
